Police clamp down on ‘spas’

In a period of two weeks this summer, Guelph Police have laid 34 charges against local holistic service spas and their employees.
The police service’s High Enforcement Action Team conducted compliance checks on a number of local spas between June 24 and July 5. Charges were laid under the city’s Business Licence Bylaw with fines totaling $15,850, a news release said.
The charges, which included fines to both the employees and owners of the businesses, were for various violations, including fees not listed, services not listed and nudity, the release said.
Holistic services are bound by a number of conditions under the city’s bylaw. Guelph police actively monitors and enforces bylaw compliance, it said.
