Salary freeze in tentative deal with Ontario colleges

Ontario’s 24 colleges have reached a two-year deal with college teachers that includes a two-year salary freeze, ending the threat of a disruption of college classes next month.
“This is great news for our students, faculty and the colleges, as it secures a new contract for two years and removes the threat of a strike,” Colleges’ Bargaining Team chair Sonia Del Missier said in a news release Wednesday.
“Both sides bargained hard and came to a settlement that is reasonable to faculty and affordable for the colleges,” she said.
The tentative agreement involving 10,000 college faculty includes a freeze in salaries from Sept. 1, 2012, to Aug. 31, 2014. However, eligible faculty would still get raises for movement through the salary grid based on experience, all benefits would remain untouched and no concessions are sought from faculty, the release said.
