Guelph school trustee Mark Bailey has been elected 2nd vice-president of the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association, the organization representing public school boards across the province.
Bailey, the current vice-chair of the Upper Grand District School Board, began volunteering with OPSBA not long after first being elected locally in 2006, a news release said. He chairs the editorial advisory board of OPSBA’s thrice-yearly magazine, and he was a regional chair of OPSBA before being elected 2nd vice-president in late September.
“We are entering a challenging time in public education, and I hope to help OPSBA and our key partners keep cool heads and focus squarely on what is in the best interests of our students,” Bailey said in the release. “We must find a way to move forward together to best prepare Ontario students for the challenges they will face entering an increasingly competitive global work environment.”
Bailey’s bid to advance to his new OPSBA post was formally endorsed by the Upper Grand board and was supported by a letter from board chair Bob Borden to other board chairs. He said Bailey “has always dealt with his responsibilities with the highest of standards.”
