Firefighters spent hours Saturday night battling a blaze that broke out in a large industrial warehouse in the Ward.
Firefighters from five local fire stations responded to the fire on Kingsmill Avenue at around 9:45 p.m., and it wasn’t until about six hours later, at around 3:45 a.m., that the fire was brought under control, a news release said. The first crews to arrive encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions, and additional fire crews were called to the scene, it said. Police closed a section of Victoria Road South between York Road and Elizabeth Street because of visibility problem. The Fire Prevention office was called in to investigate, as was the Guelph Police property crimes unit. Damages are estimated to be in excess of $100,000.
