The local health unit has received the highest rating possible from an independent organization that promotes accountability and excellence in public health.
Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health has been awarded unconditional accreditation by the Ontario Council on Community Health Accreditation.
It is the highest level of accreditation awarded, a news release said.
“We are delighted that OCCHA recognizes the high standards of staff at WDG Public Health,” said health unit board chair Amanda Rayburn in the release.
“I also appreciated that OCCHA gave high marks to the governance of Public Health, as I know first-hand how dedicated our board members are.”
The high achievement rating was also given to the areas of strategic management, health promotion, disease prevention, emergency preparedness, and communication with provincial and local governments, the release said.
The current accreditation lasts from June 2012 to June 2015, when a new accreditation process will take place, it said.
The status of the accreditation is reviewed each year with an onsite visit to the health unit.
