Two more council candidates

June Hofland announced Monday that she will seek a third term representing Ward 3 on council, and Karolyne Pickett joined the Ward 1 race on the same day.
Pickett, who also ran in Ward 1 in the 2010 civic election, is the third candidate to register so far in the ward. She said a top concern in Ward 1 remains the lack of commercial services east of Victoria Road.
“Commercial services should be part of every residential area, because a walkable neighbourhood is a vibrant neighbourhood,” she said in a news release. “We need whatever commercial land is left in the east end.”
Hofland, who was first elected in 2006, said in a news release that her campaign focus for the Oct. 27 election will be on:
• Strengthening partnerships between the city and the private and public sectors
• Supporting the development and maintenance of a vibrant and sustainable community by improving decision-making processes at city hall
• Continuing to improve openness, accountability, transparency and fiscal-responsibility.
She’s the sixth candidate in Ward 3 so far.
