A heartbreaking ordeal

I cannot get this off my mind. On Feb. 14 at approximate 11:30 p.m. I had left work and was driving down Kortright. Just as I passed the lights at Edinburgh, there it was. I had no time to react, because the dog was in the middle of the road when I hit it.
I stopped, put on my four-way flashers and got out to discover this beautiful little dog was dead. I did not know what to do or who to call. I felt sick.
The only thing I knew for sure was that I was not going to leave it in the middle of the road. I called my work and asked someone to bring a box, and I took a blanket out of my emergency kit and covered the dog. As I waited the roommate of the dog’s owner, who was searching for the dog, came along. She was devastated.
We bundled the dog up and put it in the box, and the roommate took the dog away. I just want the owner to know how extremely upset and sorry I am. I am also a dog owner and know the love we have for our pets.
