Adjust traffic lights according to construction

I am hoping to address the ongoing issue within our city – the traffic!  I understand the need for certain street closures, yet what I don’t understand is why construction is occurring on two of the major arteries in Guelph at the very same time.
We have become accustomed to this and need to leave much earlier to compensate for the heavy traffic along Gordon Street. What I feel has not been well thought out is not adjusting traffic lights and signals accordingly.
This would allow for a smoother traffic flow during this construction period.
For instance, the lights at Gordon and Stone Road only allow three vehicles at best to turn left before the signal changes. I have witnessed several near-misses every day between either pedestrians or other oncoming vehicles. Traffic heading north entering this intersection is backed up forever. Why not adjust the turn signal?
On Edinburgh Road, turning south at Gordon presents the same challenge. Cars are often backed up to Rickson often during peak hours. These are only a couple off the top of my head.
I urge the city planning and traffic departments to address these concerns and allowing residents a much smoother commute around our city during this construction. It only makes sense.

Funny.. I had a conversation with the traffic department with a similar issue involving lights on Edinburgh. the answer I got when I explained the changes in traffic flow and how the closures have changed things was that they didnt understand and didnt believe that people were using Edinburgh as an alternate( yes true storey)and that i must be mistaken. Many of them dont live here so dont expect them to understand as they only come in on one road and leave on the same road.
