No salt, sand means broken ankle

I am writing this regarding a recent incident that involves the City of Guelph. On the evening of March 8, my wife and I parked on Commercial Street to attend a Guelph Storm hockey game.
When we returned to our truck I was walking beside it and slipped and fell on some unseen black ice, breaking my right ankle which required surgery. This is causing me great discomfort and lost time from work.
There was no evidence of any salt or sand on the street or the parking spots.
At this time of year when things are melting and freezing at night, I would think more could be done by the city in this area. The safety of all pedestrians, including senior citizens, should be a matter of definite concern to the City of Guelph and its administration.
The concern and most kind assistance of a passing couple of strangers in helping me into my vehicle was certainly much appreciated. It is reassuring to know that civic responsibility is alive and well among the  individual members of the community.
