Proud moment for the city

This city’s Catholic community is abuzz with the news that a Guelph native, Toronto Archbishop Thomas Collins, is being elevated to the College of Cardinals, which meets in Rome as the principal advisers to the pope. Collins, who still visits family in Guelph, is now part of the group that elects new popes, and from whose ranks new popes are chosen. The Church of Our Lady’s architectural grandeur has long been a big part of this city, and someone who began his church career as an alter boy there is now being elevated to a rare perch. It’s a proud moment for this city.
