Spotlight on Victory school

The Upper Grand District School Board could have a hot potato on its hands with a report on King George school boundaries and what this might mean for Victory school.
The local public board has been busy over the past several years converting dual-track schools, including John McCrae, Edward Johnson and (soon) King George, into French immersion centres that don’t teach students in the regular English track. Parents at Victory school, which sits next to Exhibition Park, have resisted this sort of change, despite the popularity of FI in that part of the city.
In a phrase evocative of corporate layoffs, the new report talks of “right-sizing” Victory, a JK-6 school that’s among the few remaining dual-track schools in Guelph. Some won’t like the sound of that. The solution to Victory’s enrolment pressures favoured by school board staff involves something not seen anywhere else in Guelph – a dual-track school with FI only below Grade 4. It will be interesting to see how people react to this idea.
