Re: Transit system not working as well as officials say it is (Tribune letters, Aug. 14)
I would like to point out that there is indeed a place for the public to be involved regarding public transit in Guelph.
City council created the Guelph Transit Advisory Committee as a place for citizens to bring forward concerns, ideas, and suggestions to transit management. I would invite letter writer Brian McMullen and any other citizens who wish to speak in front or send correspondence to the committee to contact your councillor or Guelph Transit.
I have been critical of Guelph Transit in the past, however, as a member of the committee, I have learned a lot about why the system works the way it does and where it is going.
Concerns and issues raised in McMullen’s letter have been discussed by the advisory committee and have been or will be dealt with over time. I feel Michael Anders and Derek McCaughan have done a great job to communicate the many changes our transit system has and is going through. It is a huge improvement from what I remember of Guelph Transit from 10 years ago.
This fall, the Guelph Transit Advisory Committee will be looking for new members. I invite and hope that citizens concerned about transit like McMullen will consider applying to join the committee.
