The University of Guelph, which is getting back into full swing this week, is known for its strengths in various fields of higher learning. But not to be overlooked is its beautiful older buildings, which contribute to the interesting mix of architecture that sets the U of G apart from many newer universities. It’s not easy keeping old buildings, some of them dating back to the 19th century, functioning well. It takes a lot of money. Fortunately, the U of G values these aging buildings. Massey Hall is one of the older buildings now getting a lot of work, as other buildings such as Macdonald Institute, War Memorial Hall, the President’s House and Raithby House have had done.
The historical vibe you get walking around the local campus is an essential part of the U of G experience. The university deserves credit for doing what needs to be done to sustain this.
