If you ‘Google’ my name, you will find that I brought up this point in this very paper about two years ago. I have sent e-mails to our councillor, his name escapes me, because his responses were absolutely useless and I have not seen his face in our neighbourhood for four years. I have sent e-mails to our so-called mayor, and got the political rhetoric that is to be expected.
For a nice small city that apparently is concerned about all of its residents, you would be surprised to hear what their responses were. They are happy to take the $5,000 a year that we pay in taxes and ensure that there is water in the pipes so that we can take a shower in the morning
I got replies like, ‘the city does not build retail outlets, so we have no control over this type of development.’ Last time I checked, the city issues building permits and says who and where land can be developed for these types of purposes. I dare either our mayor or our ward representatives to take a walk in the east end and ask themselves one simple question: are you happy with the services that you provide for our tax dollar?
