Guelph’s Gemma Bullard has been named recipient of the OUA East’s Tracy McLeod Award for the 2013-2014 university women’s basketball season.
Bullard, a John F. Ross CVI graduate who plays for the Queen’s Gaels, earned the award that is given “in recognition of determination, perseverance and unwavering spirit,” said a news release.
“Bullard has suffered serious injuries in every season of her OUA career. The Guelph native hasn’t let concussions, knee surgery or a shoulder injury slow her down,” it said.
While playing hurt most of the season, Bullard averaged 11.4 points a game for Queen’s and 3.5 rebounds. She was also named an OUA East Second Team All-Star.
Bullard was one of a handful of local female players named to all-star teams this week. Laura Doyle (Bishop Macdonell) of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks was named an OUA West Second Team All-Star while Andrea Priamo (Bishop Macdonell) of Queen’s was named to the OUA East All-Rookie Team. Waterloo native Katherine MacTavish of the Guelph Gryphons earned OUA West Second Team All-Star honours.
