Grace Burke, a.k.a. Hot Cross Guns, of the local Brute-Leggers team, shouts encouragement to teammates during roller derby action on Saturday at the Sleeman Centre.
The 2012 Eastern Canadian Roller Derby Tournament, Dames of Thornes, wrapped up on Sunday at the Sleeman Centre with Toronto’s Bay Street Bruisers taking first place over last year’s champions, the Forest City Derby Girls from London.
Toronto won in a blowout, with a score of 163-88.
The Bay Street Bruisers will now head off to the national championships later this year.
The Brute-Leggers from the Royal City Roller Girls group took third place in front of the home crowd with a 190-129 victory over the Misfit Militia from Alliston.
This is the first time Guelph has hosted a major roller derby tournament and only the second year of the Royal City Roller Girls.
