Cage Celtics score bronze at provincials

The Bishop Macdonell Celtics have earned a bronze medal at the OFSAA AA boys basketball championships in York Region.

The fourth-seeded Celtics beat No. 2 Basil of Sault Ste. Marie by a 60-48 score to claim third place at the 18-team tournament.

Jesse Kendall scored 21 points in the win and Michael Ganson hit for 10.

Earlier Bishop Macd Celtics lost 64-61 to top-seeded Academie Mere-Teresa of Hamilton in semifinal play.

Mitchell Wood scored 20 points for Bishop Mac in the loss and Owen Brombal had 13.

In quarterfinal play, the Celtics beat No. 11 Jean Vanier of Richmond Hill by a 63-44 score.

Wood scored 17 points in the win and Kendall hit for a dozen.

In their second game of the tournament, they topped No. 13 Timmins 60-47.

Kendall scored 22 points and Wood had 14.

On Monday, Bishop Mac opened their tourney with a 54-46 victory over No. 15 St. Michael of Niagara Falls.

Wood had 19 points.
