Guelph native Dan McCarthy of the University of Guelph Gryphons gets set to put up a free-throw during Ontario University Athletics basketball action Thursday against Western.
The game was McCarthy’s first of the OUA season and he delivered in dramatic fashion.
The fifth-year Gryphon, a graduate of Centennial CVI, hit a game-winning three-pointer with less than four seconds to go to give Guelph a 58-57 win.
He had a game-high 20 points in the win.
Two days later, McCarthy had 20 points in an 82-72 loss at Windsor.
McCarthy missed the first seven games of the OUA season with knee problems.
Last season, he was an OUA Second Team All-Star and winner of the CIS Ken Shields Award for excellence in basketball, academics and community involvement.
