Gryphons ranked No. 7

Now that was a little too close for comfort.

The University of Guelph football Gryphons escaped with a three-point home win over the Western Mustangs Saturday in a game they led 33-7 at halftime.

With 23 seconds to go, Julian Tropea hit a 27-yard field goal to lift Guelph to a 42-39 win and a 5-1 season record. Western fell to 3-3 with the loss

Guelph’s last three wins have come by two, three and three points. They are now ranked No. 7 in the nation.

Western turned the ball over eight times in the game. Gryphon QB Jazz Lindsey was 20-for-31 passing, for 219 yards, three TDs and no interceptions. Robert Farquharson had 24 carries for 134 yards. John Rush made 9.5 tackles and had an interception.
