The University of Guelph Gryphons went 0-2 in OUA basketball play on Wednesday night at home against the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.
In the men’s tilt, Guelph fell 97-91 to the Hawks, the No. 6-ranked team in the nation. Dan McCarthy scored 23 points for the Gryphons. Adam Bering hit for 20.
The Gryphons fell to 7-6 with the loss and Laurier improved to 11-2.
Guelph takes on the Waterloo Warriors (4-9) on the road Saturday at 3 p.m.
In the women’s game Wednesday, Laurier got past Guelph 75-69. Ali Dzikowski scored 15 points for Guelph while Samantha Russell, Kayla Goodhoofd and Jasmine Douglas each had 14.
Guelph native Laura Doyle, a Bishop Macdonell grad, scored 12 points for Laurier.
The Gryphons fell to 5-8 with the loss and the Hawks improved to 9-4.
Guelph visits the Waterloo Warriors (1-12) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
