Local runners earned the first four spots in the men’s race of the New Balance Vic Matthews Open cross-country event Saturday at the University of Guelph Arboretum.
Andrew Nixon of the University of Guelph Gryphons earned first place. Taylor Milne of the Speed River Track & Field Club was second, Aaron Hendrikx of the Gryphons was third and Chris Winter of the Speed River club was fourth.
In the women’s race, former Guelph Gryphon runner Lindsay Carson earned first place for McMaster.
Gryphons Andrea Seccafien and Genevieve Lalonde finished second and third, respectively.
The Vic Matthews Open races capped a busy day of running on the hilly course as the multi-race Falling Leaves event took place earlier in the day.
In the 5km race, Brantford’s Tyler Moore was tops. First female was Guelph’s Kerrie Sullivan, who was 11th overall.
In the 7.5km run, Cody Beals of Fergus was first to the finish line. Gabrielle Foran of Woodstock was tops on the female side and 10th overall.
In the trail half-marathon, Chris Serran of Guelph was the first place finisher. Brenda Dolderman (no town listed) was first female in the race, and second overall.
