Honour for local lineman

Guelph native Cody O’Neil has been named winner of the Kyle Walters Trophy.

The Guelph Gryphons football player earned the honour at the team’s recent Wildman Dinner and Football Awards Banquet.

O’Neil, an offensive lineman, is an Our Lady of Lourdes high school graduate.

The Kyle Walters Trophy is awarded annually to the best prepared player who utilizes film, training, nutrition and practice to become a complete player, said a news release.

Other award winners on the night were A’dre Fraser, Rookie Of The Year; Rob Farquharson, The Donald Forster Trophy (Team MVP); Mike Fortino, Captain’s Award; Cam Walker, Special Teams Player of the Year; Jarryd Baines, The Tom Dimitroff Defensive Player Of The Year; Mike Millar, Lineman Of The Year; Andrew Graham, Scout Team Player of the Year (defense); Amitaj Gill, Scout Team Player of the Year (offense); Zach Androschuk, The Ted Wildman Memorial Trophy; Alex Ross, Unsung Hero Award.
