Zach McFadden scored in overtime to lift the Guelph Hurricanes past Cambridge 2-1 Saturday on the road in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League play.
The win was Guelph’s second straight to start 2014 as they topped Listowel 9-5 the night prior.
In Saturday’s win, Craig Martini tied the score 1-1 with 30 seconds left in the third period before McFadden’s winner, which came just 13 seconds into overtime.
Friday, Michael Courvoisier had a hat trick and an assist for the Hurricanes. Matt Lippa, Martini and Patrick Kudla each had a goal and two assists while Caleb Champagne and Dustin Scheer each had a goal and an assist. McFadden recorded three assists, Ian Chan had two, and Shawn Rooke had a goal.
The wins pushed Guelph to within one win of the .500 mark as they’re 16-17-4, which puts them in fifth in the nine-team Midwestern Conference.
The Hurricanes, winners of four straight, host Waterloo (25-7-3) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre.
