The Guelph Curling Club rink skipped by Rod Stork pulled off a repeat championship at the 79th Tarlton-Robertson Masters Memorial Bonspiel at the Guelph Curling Club this week.
The team of Stork, Al Raftis, Cam Davidson and Don Blackburn defeated the Guelph Curling Club rink skipped by Rod Ackroyd to win the Mac Robertson Memorial Trophy, the first event for the early draw of the bonspiel.
Winning the second event for the Sleeman Trophy was the Jack Gillham rink from the York Curling Club.
In the late draw, the Doug Hamilton rink from the Port Elgin Curling Club repeated as champs and earned the Ross Tarlton Memorial Trophy. The team is Hamilton, Bill Hall, Denis Radbourne and Lorne Johnson.
Winning the Ernie Barber Memorial Trophy in the second event was the Darryl Lynch rink from the Stroud Curling Club. They beat the Guelph Curling Club rink skipped by Wayne McDonell to capture the trophy.
At a banquet on Monday evening, long-time Guelph curler John Eccles was honoured and he received a standing ovation from the assembled curlers, said a news release.
The Tarlton-Robertson Memorial Masters Bonspiel began in 1933, and is the world’s oldest continuously played annual masters
bonspiel, said a news release.
Participants in the two-day event must be at least 60 years of age.
The event took place on Monday and Tuesday at the Guelph Curling Club.
