Oaks fall in heartbreaking fashion
The first-year Guelph Oaks were mere moments away from hoisting the Kitchener and District Soccer League’s playoff championship trophy Sunday night in Kitchener.
But their opponents had other ideas.
The Oaks and Hrvat played to a 1-1 draw in the finals and Guelph’s Nana Amponsem scored in the 20th minute of extra time to give the locals the lead. In the final minute of extra time, Hrvat scored and sent the game to penalty kicks, which they won, for a 3-2 final scoreline.
Guelph trailed the game 1-0 at halftime before Alex Kinnon scored to tie it.
