The Guelph Royals’ Intercounty Baseball League season came to an end Saturday night.
The Royals were downed 5-3 by the Brantford Red Sox at Hastings Stadium in Guelph as the visitors won the best-of-seven, first-round playoff series four games to two.
Brantford scored twice in the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie and earn the win.
Guelph starting pitcher Andrew Van’t Wout took the loss, allowing eight hits and five runs (two of them earned) over seven and two thirds innings.
Tino Silvestri had a pair of doubles and an RBI for the Royals, while Bruce Yari and Marc Sgrignoli each had a pair of hits and a run scored. Turner Spears had a hit and a run scored, while Taylor Castrillo and Duaine Bowles added an RBI each.
Brantford was first in the regular season with a 33-9 record and Guelph was last with a 9-33 mark.
