Royals topple Toronto, twice

The Guelph Royals went 2-for-2 against Toronto on the weekend in Intercounty Baseball League play.

Guelph topped Toronto 12-2 on the road Sunday, a day after getting past them by a 4-3 score at home.

Sunday, Josh Garton had a whopping six RBIs for the Royals. He had four hits, two of them home runs, and he scored three times.

Gavin Free got the win for Guelph, pitching seven innings, allowing six hits and one earned run. He struck out eight Toronto batters.

Saturday at Hastings Stadium in Guelph, Jason Martyn got the win on the mound, going seven innings and giving up four hits and one earned run.

Chandler McLaren had two RBIs in the win and Keith Kandel had three hits.

The Royals (8-4) host Barrie (9-1) tonight at 7:30 p.m. in a battle of the league’s top two teams in the standings.
