Skier reaches podium

Guelph skier Erin Mielzynski won her second career World Cup medal on Friday as she earned bronze in the women’s slalom race in Zagreb, Croatia.

Mielzynski, a graduate of Bishop Macdonell high school, earned third place with a combined time of two minutes and 3.49 seconds.

In first was Mikaela Shiffrin of the U.S. in 2:01.73. In second was Sweden’s Frida Hansdotter in 2:02.92.

In March of last year, Mielzynski won a World Cup slalom race in Ofterschwang, Germany and become the first Canadian woman to do so since 1971.
