Erin Mercer has joined the coaching staff of the University of Guelph Gryphons women’s volleyball team.
Mercer, a former District 10 high school volleyball all-star with the John F. Ross Royals, is a first-year assistant coach with the Gryphons starting this season.
After Ross, Mercer went on to play OUA volleyball with the Brock Badgers, where she would serve as team captain. In her final season there (2009-2010) Mercer was named an OUA Second Team All-Star.
The Gryphons open their 2013-2014 season Friday night at York.

It’s not often a hockey team gets 72 shots on net in a regulation time game. It’s even more rare for the team to lose.
But such was the case on the weekend when the Guelph Storm outshot Belleville 72-29 in a 6-5 road loss. Belleville goalie Charlie Graham made 67 saves, and was unsurprisingly named the game’s first star.
Guelph visits Windsor tonight (Thursday) at 7:05 p.m. before hosting Niagara Friday (7:30 p.m.).

Guelph hosts the OUA championships this weekend at Hastings Stadium. On Friday at 7 p.m., the Gryphons play Western.
This year’s team wrapped up their season with a school record 17 wins, as they went 17-7.
