A handful of local players were among young football stars competing at The Ontario Football Alliance’s second annual Red vs. Black weekend at the University of Guelph.

The event included a Red vs. Black game on Saturday afternoon, where the top 90 under-18 football players in the province showed their skills as they hope to land a spot on the 40-man U18 Team Ontario roster that will compete at the Football Canada Cup in Saskatchewan this summer.

Among those on the Black and Red rosters were Guelph’s Kaden Jespersen, Liam St. Hilaire, Nathan Monk and Graham Brodie, and Ben Cross of Aberfoyle.

The Black team earned a 39-30 victory in the game, played under sunny skies at Alumni Stadium.

The Black vs. Red weekend saw players go through a university style mini-camp and Saturday’s game was to be filmed to professional CFL standards in which the final roster for the Canada Cup will be selected, said a news release.
