Storm takes Game 1

The Guelph Storm got goals from five different players on their way to a 5-2 win over the Plymouth Whalers in Game 1 of their best-of-seven, first-round OHL playoff series Friday night.

Jason Dickinson, Stephen Pierog, Brock McGinn, Pius Suter and Scott Kosmachuk scored for the Storm in the game, played in front of an announced crowd of 4,204 at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph.

The game saw two Whalers players get the boot. Yannick Rathgeb got a game misconducted for a “check to the head” on the Storm’s Robby Fabbri in the second period. Fabbri left the game and didn’t return to the ice.

Plymouth’s Carter Sandlak, a former Storm player, also received a match penalty for “slashing” for a two-handed swing of his stick that connected with the shoulder of a Guelph player while Stormers were celebrating a goal.

Game 2 is tonight (Saturday) at 7 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre.
