The underdog Guelph Storm doubled up the Plymouth Whalers 4-2 Friday on the road to take Game 1 of their best-of-seven, first-round playoff series.

Andrey Pedan, Jason Dickinson and Brock McGinn had goals for Guelph before Francis Menard scored an empty netter to seal the victory.

Guelph was outshot 47-30 in the game and Guelph goaltender Garret Sparks earned first-star honours.

The Storm hosts Game 2 Sunday at 6:35 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre.
