The University of Guelph men’s and women’s soccer Gryphons are both undefeated after their first two games of the OUA season.
Wednesday night on the road, the men’s Gryphons topped UOIT 5-0 and the women got past UOIT 1-0.
For the men, Robbie Murphy had a pair of goals while singles came from Timothy Flynn, Marc Bijman and Guelph native Ethan Danielli, from the penalty spot.
Niklas Wetterling got the shutout in net as Guelph outshot their opponents 16-4.
For the women, a second-minute goal by Erica Bain was enough for the one-goal win. Alexandra King got the clean sheet in net. Guelph was outshot 6-3 in the game.
In their season openers on the weekend at home, the Guelph women beat McMaster 2-0 and the men tied McMaster 1-1.
Alexandra Harriss and Guelph’s Courtney Whiteside scored in the women’s win and King got the shutout, making 10 saves as the locals were outshot 10-5.
In the men’s draw, Murphy scored an 89th penalty kick to lift the Gryphons into the 1-1 tie.
The locals host York Saturday with the men playing at 3:15 p.m. and the women at 1 p.m., both at the Gryphons Soccer Complex.
