The top 90 under-18 football players in the province are gathering in Guelph this weekend as part of The Ontario Football Alliance’s second annual Red vs. Black weekend.
The weekend’s events include a Red vs. Black football game that will see the players compete for a spot on the 40-man U18 Team Ontario roster that will compete at the Football Canada Cup in Saskatchewan this summer.
The game takes place Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the University of Guelph’s Alumni Stadium.
The Black vs. Red weekend will see players go through a university style mini-camp and Saturday’s game will be filmed to professional CFL standards in which the final roster for the Canada Cup will be selected, said a news release.
Players listed from Guelph who are to take part are Kaden Jespersen, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound receiver; Liam St. Hilaire, a 5-foot-11, 150-pound receiver; Nathan Monk, a 5-foot-11, 280-pound offensive lineman, and Graham Brodie, a 5-foot-11, 155-pound defensive back.
On Friday at the U of G’s Peter Clark Hall, a banquet dinner takes place and among guest speakers are Guelph Gryphons football coach Stu Lang, Western coach and Guelph native Greg Marshall and Brian Bulcke, a Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive lineman.
