Arboretum plant sale on Sept. 8

University of Guelph’s Arboretum volunteers host their annual plant sale this coming Saturday, Sept. 8.
The sale, which has been run by volunteers since 1995, is a fundraiser for the Arboretum. Proceeds have been used to upgrade nursery facilities, to build up the Arboretum’s Endowment fund and to help fund the Italian Garden, a news release said.
Originally, all the plants were donated, but it soon became apparent that this was unable to produce the number of plants needed for the popular sale, it said.
Seed sources have since expanded to include seed exchanges with organizations around the world, wild seed collection, surplus from the Arboretum’s nursery and seeds collected  by volunteers from their gardens, it said. Plant donations are also still accepted.
The sale is a one-day-only event running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the RJ Hilton Centre on College Avenue East.
