Artist in Residence has new exhibition

An abstract painter who is currently the Artist in Residence at Guelph’s Lakeside Church has a solo show of her works in Elora this month.
Rachel Albano’s paintings are being displayed at Cafe Creperie from March 6-30.
Albano recently won an award at the contemporary art fair in Toronto known as the Artist Project, a juried show featuring over 250 contemporary artists from Canada and abroad, a news release said.
Albano, who is from Elora, earned an honours BA degree from the University of Guelph in studio art and art history.
She said her minimalist works have “a sense of the artist’s presence through decidedly imperfect gestural marks and sometimes a heavy scraping back of layers.”
As well, the use of palette knives “creates a sense of rawness and roughness – a loss of control that invites an element of chance into the work,” she said in the release.
“I do all of this for one simple purpose: to create paintings that facilitate a sense of hope and inspiration,” she said.
