Lions club member Charlene Teasdale shines up her 1986 Monte Carlo SS in preparation for Sunday’s Show ‘N’ Shine Car Show downtown. The car, which bears its original licence plate, belonged to Teasdale’s late brother, Chuck Hubble, a paraplegic who didn’t let his injuries hold him back, she says.

Car show in downtown Guelph on Sunday

Downtown Guelph will be closed to vehicle traffic Sunday, but cars of all makes, models and vintages can still be expected to line the streets.
That’s because the Lions’ Show ‘N’ Shine Car Show, a fundraiser for Lions Club projects, will be taking over the downtown for most of the day.
“We would like people to come rediscover downtown Guelph and enjoy a trip down memory lane as they stroll through the rows of classic and future classic cars,” said Guelph Lions Club vice-president Russ Dwyer.
“We did not restrict the ages for the cars as some shows do, so you can expect to see anything from the ’30s on up to brand new,” he said in an email.
The show will close down Wyndham Street from Woolwich to Macdonell, as well as Cork Street east of Norfolk, and Quebec Street east of Baker, he said.
The show runs from 1 to 5 p.m., but the closures will be in effect from 11 a.m. to roughly 7 p.m., until cleanup is finished.
Classic car shows were once an annual Father’s Day tradition in downtown Guelph, but it’s been more than a few years since one has been hosted there.
Dwyer is hoping to have around 300 cars – the event max – in the Lions club fundraiser this weekend. Participants are asked to pre-register at www.guelphlionsclub.org or by email to russ.dwyer@sympatico.ca. There is a per-vehicle fee to be paid at the event.
Individuals and businesses can also support the event by donating raffle prizes or sponsoring or purchasing trophies.
The event is a joint project of the Guelph Lions Club and the Royal City Lions Club. All money raised will support Lions projects, such as vision screening in local elementary schools, Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, local sports team sponsorships, and more.
For more information, call Dwyer at 519-780-1112 or Charlene Teasdale at 519-831-0582.
