Events examine eating disorders

In recognition of Eating Disorders Awareness Week, from Feb. 5 to 11, a couple of local events are planned to bring attention to the issue.
The first event, preceding the week, is the annual Eating Disorders and Body Image Exposé on Jan. 31. The event is hosted by the University of Guelph Wellness Centre’s Acceptance Without Limits group, and runs from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the University Centre.
The second event is the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Eating Disorders Coalition’s ninth annual Faces of Recovery panel. The panel takes place Feb. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Best Western Hotel, 716 Gordon St., and features individuals recovering from eating disorders, a news release said.
Both events are free of charge, with no registration needed, but donations to the Eating Disorders Coalition would be welcome, the release said.
Eating Disorders Awareness Week is organized internationally by groups concerned about the high prevalence of anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating disorder, disordered eating and weight preoccupation, it said.
