Free afternoon concerts at St. George’s church

A new series of five free, late afternoon concerts on Tuesdays at St. George’s Anglican Church starts on Feb. 5 with a piano trio playing music by Beethoven.
The first 4:30 p.m. concert will be a performance of Beethoven’s Piano Trio Opus 97, known as the “Archduke.” Playing it will be Elspeth Durward on violin, Marlena Tureski on cello and Catherine Robertson on piano. It will be followed by concerts on Feb. 12 by the Bremen String Quartet, on Feb. 19 by the xTrio (classical flute, clarinet and piano) and on Feb. 26 by the Madawaska String Quartet, a news release said.
The series’ winter cycle will end on March 5 with violin and viola duos performed by Jerzy Kaplanek and Christine Vlajk, two members of the Waterloo-based Penderecki Quartet.
“We promise they will be something to warm you through these long winter weeks!” Marlena Tureski, a cellist who is the series’ co-artistic director said in the release.
