Music and environmental awareness will be promoted together in a day-long festival Aug. 4 at Riverside Park’s band shell.
The Fresh Water Jamboree was launched in 2008 as an annual music festival to raise awareness about fresh water in Wellington County, in the province, and across Canada. It runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and organizers expect a strong turnout.
“We’re expecting to see 1,000 or 2,000 people at the event this year,” said festival organizer Chris Williams in a news release. “We’ve had so many local musicians and artistic communities become involved in this event, it’s quite exciting.”
The concert will feature performances by a variety of musicians and groups, including Shane Philips, Chynna Lewis, Anthony Damiao, Bamidele Bajowa, The Lullaby, Space Crayons, Peter Slack, Cornelius and The Damn Dirty Apes, and Gayle Ackroyd.
There will also be a presentation for fresh water awareness, the release said.
Food and refreshments will be available at the event, and there will be a kids’ area featuring activities for the little ones.
Organizers are still looking for volunteers who can help out leading up to and during the Fresh Water Jam, the release said. Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to contact organizers at freshwaterjamboree@gmail.com.
The festival is a project of Be The Artist, a local organization that promotes musicians and environmental initiatives. For more information, visit www.betheartist.ca.
