A local art gallery is collecting sports equipment until mid-May to distribute to needy families through neighbourhood associations in Guelph.
“It’s a good time to do it, because people are clearing out their basements and garages,” said Leslie Hayes, coordinator of the Barber Gallery.
The spring drive is already underway, and the gallery has been receiving rollerblades, skipping ropes, soccer balls, basements and mitts, and other equipment.
“It is good used stuff, but some people are bringing in brand new things,” she said.
It’s the second sports equipment drive organized by the gallery at 167 Suffolk St. W. The first was a winter drive done around the time of last year’s winter Olympics in B.C.
The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 9-4.
