Guelph artist shares talents in Kitchener

A Guelph resident who is this year’s artist-in-residence at Joseph Schneider Haus in Kitchener will speak Sunday afternoon about her first exhibit there, during a free celebration of the opening weekend of 2012 for the national historic site.
Debbie Thompson Wilson talks at 2 p.m. Feb. 19 about the show called “The Illustrated Alphabet: Everyman’s ABC,” which runs to June 10 at 466 Queen St. S.
Wilson, a U of G fine arts graduate and a member of the Royal City Calligraphy Guild, is a miniature painter and “limner” – a painter of ornamental decoration. She’ll be introduced at a reception from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, where she’ll demonstrate her art.
On Feb. 20, which is Family Day, she’ll letter bookmarks for visitors in Fraktur calligraphy – the decorative writing style perfected by the Pennsylvania Germans, who were early settlers of Kitchener.
Admission is free all weekend to Joseph Schneider Haus, located next to Kitchener’s downtown Victoria Park.
