Guelph hosts celebration of fantasy, horror and more

Actors from The Terminator, Conan the Barbarian, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Mass Effect, and Todd and the Book of Pure Evil are among those expected to take part in the first ever GenreCon this weekend at the Holiday Inn on Scottsdale Drive.
GenreCon, which runs from Nov. 16 to 18, is a celebration of action, fantasy, horror and science fiction in literature, film, music and gaming, a news release said. Organizers have been working for the last year to create a unique fan experience that will include several high-profile guests, contests, parties, panels and good old-fashioned nerd frivolity, it said.
Among those expected to take part will be actor and director Michael Biehn, most famously known for starring in James Cameron’s hits The Terminator and Aliens.
Biehn will be joined by two actors best known for their roles on cult TV phenomenon Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They are Nicholas Brendon, who played sidekick Xander Harris through all seven seasons of the series, and Tom Lenk, a regular in the last two seasons as adversary-turned-ally Andrew Wells.
Other major guests include Conan the Barbarian and Red Sonja star Sandahl Bergman and actor Julian Richings, best known for his role in Bruce McDonald’s Hard Core Logo.
Fans will have lots of chances to interact with celebrity guests, including autograph sessions, photo ops and Q&As, the release said.
Other highlights of the event include a Halo 4 tournament, a film festival boasting the best in horror, sci-fi and fantasy from indie filmmakers across North America, and the usual trappings of fan conventions – parties, a gaming room, costume contests, readings and dealers, exhibitors and fan groups.
Tickets for the convention are availableat
