Guelph Jazz Festival art auction works on display

Works of art to be auctioned off at a big Guelph Jazz Festival fundraiser on Sunday April 21 will soon go on display at four locations in the city.
Some of the art to be sold at the eighth annual Sounds Provocative Jazz Art Auction will be displayed starting March 24 at the Red Brick Café on Douglas Street. Other works will go on display on March 25 at Planet Bean, 2 Wyndham St., and at two Meridian Credit Union locations – 153 Wyndham St. N. and 370 Stone Rd. W. The works will all be displayed until April 20.
As well, the art can already be previewed online at guelphjazzfestival.com.
This year’s art auction is at the Holiday Inn on Scottsdale Drive from 2-6 p.m. April 21, with net proceeds going to support the jazz festival. Last year’s event raised just over $30,000, a news release said.
“Expect a beautifully curated exhibition by Renann Isaacs, featuring stunning works by emerging, mid-career and established artists who are locally, nationally and internationally recognized,” the release said.
The event’s emcee is Robert Enright, a U of G research professor in art criticism and one of Canada’s most prominent cultural journalists, it said.
Tickets include delectable nibbles, two drinks and live music. There’s also a silent auction with a selection of crafts and gifts.
People who can’t attend the art auction in person can make arrangements for advance bids or for phone bidding by an agent. Call the festival office at 519-763-4952 for details.
