Guelph Studio Tour The tour’s hours are Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Here, Barbara Susan Booth gets a closer look at a piece of glass art back-lit by the fall sunshine through a window at the Guelph Youth Music Centre. The piece, by artist Jerre Davidson, is made up of many layers of glass that go through a process of repeated firing in a kiln. Davidson is one of a number of glass artists featured in the show Glass in the Music Centre, which had its opening reception Saturday. The works will remain on display until Oct. 19.
Studios and gallery spaces around the city will open their doors to the public this weekend for the 27th annual Guelph Studio Tour.
The tour features 40 artists and artisans, many of them exhibiting in their studio space, so people can check out their work where it happens.
Some of the artists will also exhibit together in larger spaces, so people will have the chance to see more than one artist’s work at a time. Either way, the tour offers the opportunity to meet the artists, ask questions about their process and, of course, buy their creations, a news release said.
“The quality of the work is unparalleled,” it said.
The work includes a wide variety of media, from painting and sculpture to pottery to jewelry, metal work, glass, quilting, furniture and more.
People are encouraged to grab a brochure and map and plan a route with media to suit their individual interests. However, the tour runs for three days, from Oct. 12 to 14, so it is possible to see everyone, the release said.
The tour’s hours are Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Brochures are available at locations around town or online at www.guelphstudiotour.ca. The brochure includes a ballot which, after visiting four sites and having the ballot marked, visitors can use to enter a draw.
