Guelph Symphony performs Dvorak

The Guelph Symphony will perform Dvorak’s “New World” symphony as the centrepiece of its next concert on Sunday Feb. 19 in the River Run Centre.
The 3 p.m. concert will also include West Coast Canadian composer Michael Conway Baker’s Harp Concerto, featuring GSO harpist Andrew Chan, a news release said.
To start the show, the Guelph Youth Symphony Orchestra will join the GSO to perform Canadian composer Oskar Morawetz’s Carnival Overture. A total of more than 80 musicians will be on stage for this piece, and they will be directed by Chris Cigolea, who is artistic director of the Guelph Youth Symphony Orchestra and also principal trumpet of the GSO.
At the GSO’s last concert in December, Cigolea “wowed the GSO audience with his performance of the Haydn Trumpet Concerto,” and his conducting talents will be on display on Feb. 19, GSO artistic director Judith Yan said in the release.
For tickets, call the box office at 519-763-3000 or visit riverrun.ca.
Starting this season, the GSO is making $20 tickets available to anyone under the age of 30, starting at 6 p.m. on the Friday before a show.
Tickets can be bought either online or in person at the box office for best available seats, and proof of age is required when the tickets are picked up, the release said.
