The city is ending this summer’s run of free movies in Market Square with a screening of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Friday Sept. 14 at 8:30 p.m.
“With the onset of shorter days and cooler nights, we decided to move the screening to an earlier start time,” Colleen Clack, the city’s general manager of culture and tourism, said in a news release.
“We’re thrilled with the fantastic turnout and positive feedback we’ve had so far for our outdoor summer movie series,” she said. “The family-themed classics have been a popular choice, drawing hundreds of people downtown.”
The central character in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a young boy who wins a tour through the most magnificent chocolate factory in the world, led by the world’s most unusual candy maker, played by actor Johnny Depp.
Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis. The screening will be cancelled in the case of inclement weather. Visit guelph.ca/marketsquare for event updates.
