New book celebrates Guelph’s barns and coachhouses

The more than 120 barns found in the Royal City are the subject of Evelyn Bird’s newly published book to be launched this Friday at The Bookshelf.
The book, simply titled Barns and Coach Houses of Guelph, features colour photos and stories about the barns that once stood or still stand in the city – some of them no longer recognizable as barns. The buildings are indexed and catalogues alphabetically by street address, so readers can easily look them up, and there are also some maps featuring walking tours.
As the title suggests, the book also features a few coach houses, calling to mind a time when horses and buggies travelled the streets of Guelph.
Bird will talk about some of these buildings at the book launch event, taking place from 6 to 8 p.m.
