Puppet show Pandora’s Sox at Evergreen Centre

Characters from Greek mythology are coming to life in puppet form for a performance at the Evergreen Senior’s Centre.
Pandora’s Sox, a local company that puts on puppet shows for both children and seniors using large colourful rod puppets, sight gags and music, will perform its Variety Show #2 at the centre on July 15 at 10:15 a.m.
The show features an audience-participation segment, aimed at teaching breath awareness – a strategy to help seniors cope with the many situational and physical changes they may be facing, a news release said.
But the show focuses on entertainment first and foremost, it said. The Pandora’s Sox variety shows are vaudeville-style shows featuring nostalgic routines, such as Abbott and Costello’s “Who’s On First,” sight gags, vaudeville songs and corny jokes.
The characters Prometheus and Pandora engage with the audience, meeting as many people as possible, the release said.
“It’s quite wonderful to witness the seniors’ reaction,” director Jay Wilson said in the release. “Pandora tells her story and leads everyone through a short meditation. When they open their eyes, their faces look more relaxed, their eyes are clearer and there often appears a pleasant, relaxed smile.”
