Suzuki String School offers hands-on experience

Children will get a chance to try out miniature violins, violas and cellos when the Suzuki String School of Guelph holds its annual Spring Music Fair on Saturday at the Guelph Youth Music Centre.
The free 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 25 event also includes an opportunity to watch group lessons, as well as crafts and a sale of used children’s books, videos and CDs, a news release said. Snacks will be served.
“This is a really fun day where families can experience the extraordinary community a child joins when taking lessons at the Suzuki String School of Guelph,” Paule Barsalou, the school’s artistic director, said in the release.
“Children love trying the instruments. We have tiny ones so even the smallest child can hold those instruments comfortably,” she said. “It’s amazing to see the look on their face when the first sounds come out. They’re blown away!”
